In this interview from AAO 2018, Dr. Bruce Koffler discusses contact lens therapy for myopia control. The gas permeable lenses are designed to reshape the contour of the cornea, and are worn overnight night but removed during the day. Dr. Koffler estimates that the lenses enable a 45% decrease in myopia progression, and are most suitable for children beginning at age 7. Due to its high safety profile, Dr. Koffler believes that orthokeratology represents a viable technique to curb the rising rates of myopia.
