Vitrectomy with inner retinal fenestration has been proposed as an effective surgical treatment for optic disc pit maculopathy. We operated on 2 children with recent vision loss from a serous retinal detachment associated with an optic disc pit. Both patients had complete resolution of subfoveal fluid within 6 months of the procedure. Vision improved to 20/25 in each child. Neither patient developed a lens opacity. This procedure is attractive because it is safe and effective.
