Blunt Trauma with Lensectomy, Iridodialysis Repair, and ILM Peeling

    Cataract/Anterior Segment, Retina/Vitreous

Drs. Tahsin Khundkar and Sandra Montezuma describe the repairs made to a pediatric patient with a bungee cord injury causing traumatic iridodialysis, cataract, and high IOP. Starting with moving the infusion to where it could be visualized, Drs. Khundkar and Montezuma then took steps to remove the entire lens capsule and to repair the iridodialysis. Faced with a large macular hole, the surgical team chose to peel the adherent internal limiting membrane, with resultant closure of the hole. Surgical planning is of key importance in these complicated trauma cases.
