Researchers retrospectively reviewed data for 251 patients with exudative AMD in one eye only. Fellow eyes had no sign of exudative AMD. The exudative AMD eyes had a significantly higher incidence of posterior vitreomacular adhesion than fellow eyes (83 percent vs. 11.3 percent). The authors suggest that prophylactic induction of posterior vitreous detachment may prevent CNV development in selected cases.
