Dr. Tessler earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago and completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then went on to fellowships in uveitis, immunology, and comprehensive ophthalmology at the University of California at San Francisco.
Dr. Tessler has lectured extensively as an invited speaker and has made dozens of presentations internationally. He has published nearly 150 journal articles and abstracts.
Dr. Tessler is currently a professor of clinical ophthalmology in the University of Illinois's Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He chairs the uveitis section of Current Insight and the uveitis Specialty Information Team for the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
