Femtosecond laser appears a viable option for treating residual refractive error in multifocal IOL patients

This prospective, nonrandomized, masked observational case series examined patients undergoing LASIK with the femtosecond laser to correct residual refractive error following refractive lens exchange with a multifocal IOL. At six months, researchers found that there was an improvement in vision with all eyes seeing 20/30 or better uncorrected. The efficacy index was also good, with a post-operative BSCVA of 0.86 +- 0.16. No patients lost more than one line of BSCVA in the follow up. The authors conclude that with proper patient selection, retreatment with the femtosecond laser can produce good refractive outcomes without laser-related complications.
