  • Cataract/Anterior Segment

This prospective study included 26 patients with emmetropia after first-eye cataract surgery who were offered monovision for the second-eye, with the surgeon aiming for a modest myopic defocus of 1 to 1.5 D. At about four months postop, 96 percent could see at least 20/30 uncorrected for distance, and 92 percent achieved N8 (J4) or better uncorrected near acuity. One-fourth were completely spectacle-independent and one patient spectacle-dependent. Patients maintained good stereopsis and contrast sensitivity.
