  • TrueVision 3D Surgical of Santa Barbara, Calif., announced that it has received the European CE Mark for marketing its Refractive Cataract Toolset. The Toolset, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011, is computer-guided 3-D software for astigmatic correction and IOL alignment during cataract surgery.

The software package combines 3-D visualization, individual patient parameters, and computer-based guidance applications during surgery in real-time. It delivers templates for corneal incisions, toric IOL alignment, multifocal IOL positioning and limbal relaxing incision alignment tailored to preoperative measurements of individual patients. Preoperative and postoperative image capture is also enabled in conjunction with slit-lamp biomicroscopes in the clinical setting for surgical planning.

"It is terrific news that my European colleagues will be able to enjoy the precise incision alignment and customized lens positioning guidance software tools that we have been using," said Robert Weinstock, MD, director of Cataract and Refractive Services at the Eye Institute of West Florida. "The ability to provide real-time adjustments of many key aspects of modern cataract surgery while viewing the entire surgical field is something that only the TrueVision Refractive Cataract Toolset can offer. Visiting surgeons are delighted by these capabilities and will now be able to bring this incision and lens guidance technology to their own patients in Europe."
