Call for applications: David and Molly Pyott Foundation scholarships

The University of Edinburgh will award 6 scholarships in their Master of Surgery (ChM) in Clinical Ophthalmology program, thanks to the generous support of The David and Molly Pyott Foundation.

The ChM is designed to support ophthalmology trainees in the United Kingdom and internationally by providing advanced training for those preparing for the fellowship examinations of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) and those approaching consultancy.

The part-time, online distance 2-year program is jointly offered by the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and was developed in partnership with NHS Education for Scotland (NES). Further course information is available online, along with an introductory video by Professor Baljean Dhillon, Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh.

Doctors from Africa, South Asia, Caribbean Islands, Pacific Islands, Central and South America who are accepted for admission to the online ChM program are eligible for the scholarship award, which will cover all tuition fees as well as internet access and a laptop. Mr. Pyott, former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Allergan, made the generous donation to his Scottish alma mater through his foundation. His other philanthropic efforts include a $2 million endowment to establish the David E.I. Pyott Glaucoma Education Center on the Academy's Ophthalmic News and Education (ONE) Network in 2016. That donation marked the largest gift ever contributed to the Academy’s Foundation from a single individual.
