FDA approves optical biometer

The FDA has approved Nidek’s AL-Scan Optical Biometer.

The AL-Scan features 3-D auto tracking and auto shot, and can measure axial length, corneal curvature radius, anterior chamber depth, central corneal thickness, white-to-white distance and pupil size for cataract surgery in 10 seconds, according to Nidek.

It can also calculate nine IOL formulas, including Shammas PL for post-LASIK eyes, and can determine the angle between the steepest corneal meridian and the line passing through a predetermined “landmark” for toric IOL implants.
