The Pascal Synthesis portable dual-port pattern scanning laser has received FDA 510(k) clearance. Manufactured by Topcon Medical Laser Systems, it is available in 532 nm or 577 nm wavelengths.

Synthesis is designed to integrate with Topcon D7 and Haag-Streit style slit lamps, with pricing similar to a premium single spot laser system. The company says it is designed to allow fast and effective treatment of retinal disorders using clinically proven technology, while offering physicians the option of keeping their current slit lamp set-up.

"The introduction of the Pascal Synthesis will, for the first time, offer physicians a more cost-effective solution in providing their patients pattern-scanning laser technology," says Tom Koike, president and CEO of Topcon Medical Laser Systems.

According to Prof. Paolo Stanga from Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in Manchester, England: "Having the versatility of different treatment options, such as a single-spot laser and pattern scanning with Endpoint Management is very advantageous when treating a disease-diverse patient base."
