To avoid acute postoperative endophthalmitis, a dreaded complication of intraocular surgery, rigorous surgical site preparation is necessary. An essential part of this preparation is draping the ocular surface to prevent eyelashes from entering the operating field. Eyelashes harbor flora that may cause infection postoperatively. The adhesive drape should be carefully applied to the ocular surface, excluding the eyelashes from the surgical field. The eyelid speculum should be placed so that the drape wraps entirely around the lid margin and the eyelashes are kept securely beneath it.
