Foreign bodies are not always readily apparent and can often be found lodged under the upper lid. Single and double eversion of the upper lid are important techniques for identifying superficial ocular foreign bodies. Foreign bodies under the lid can often be removed with a forceful stream of sterile irrigation fluid or a cotton swab.
