    Post-Hoc Observations from Protocol V

    Macular Disease, Retina/Vitreous

In this interview from ASRS 2019, Dr. Omar Punjabi describes a post-hoc analysis of Protocol V. His analysis assessed characteristics and outcomes of eyes that were assigned to observation versus those that received immediate laser or aflibercept for diabetic macular edema. Patients in the observation group who eventually required aflibercept treatment tended to have been already treated in the fellow eye, have a baseline macular thickness greater than 300 microns and severe diabetic retinopathy at baseline, he explains. Dr. Punjabi suggests observing eyes, when possible, as it reduces costs and the risk of injection-related complications while minimizing the burden on patients, physicians and the healthcare system.
