Using anterior segment spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, Dr. Karolinne Rocha has shown that the corneal epithelium is highly reactive to underlying stromal irregularities, and that epithelial thickness variations can affect corneal topography interpretation and wavefront analysis. In this interview from AAO 2014, she discusses her work and the implications of this type of analysis in diagnosing keratoconus and forme fruste keratoconus, as well as in understanding the epithelial remodeling that occurs after refractive procedures.
