Sickle Cell Retinopathy

Dr. Xuejing Chen and Adrienne Scott discuss Dr. Scott's project of looking at correlations between vascular density on OCT angiography and cerebral manifestations of sickle cell disease. Dr. Scott is interested in what the retina can tell us about the rest of the body, through a correlation between macular circulation and cerebral circulation. Dr. Scott sees the refinement of screening processes in the future such as OCT angiography to be more user-friendly (especially for children), more economical, and more available for use in the search for potential vascular abnormalities and even potentially in the brain.
