    In this interview from AAO 2019, Dr. Stephen Pflugfelder shares his strategies for handling neurotrophic keratopathy (NK). Physicians should first discern NK from dry eye disease, he explains. He recommends checking for corneal sensation in patients with chronic disease, surgery or injuries. Treatment approaches generally focus on improving the tear film and corneal epithelium. When treatment does not work, he advises looking for neurological problems and referring to a patient’s medical history for clues.
