Which Antifungal Is Best for Fungal Keratitis?

    AAO 2015
    Cornea/External Disease

In this presentation from AAO 2015, Dr. Prashant Garg discusses a recent literature review of 12 randomized control trials conducted to compare the efficacy of current antifungal medications for fungal keratitis. Determining the best treatment for ocular fungal infections is difficult because in vitro susceptibility testing does not translate to clinical success, however natamycin appears to be the most effective against molds and yeast, and Amphotericin appears promising. Voriconazole is inferior, particularly against Fusarium, and is associated with a higher risk of adverse reactions.
