This prospective study found that the Tecnis toric IOL and the Acrysof IQ toric IOL provide similar visual and refractive outcomes after phacoemulsification in eyes with low to moderate corneal astigmatism.

The authors randomized 40 eyes of 26 patients with regular corneal astigmatism between 1.0 and 3.0 D to phacoemulsification with implantation of a Tecnis toric IOL or an Acrysof IQ toric IOL.

At two months' follow-up, both IOLs provided excellent and comparable outcomes in UDVA, CDVA and spherical equivalent refraction. No eye had IOL rotation of more than 10 degrees. HOAs, coma, trefoil and Strehl ratio were also similar between the groups.

Although spherical aberration was higher for the Acrysof toric IOL, this difference did not seem to affect overall visual quality.
