Corneal measurements taken by contact ultrasound differ from Orbscan II optical pachymetry

An evaluation of these two devices in 177 normal corneas indicates that ultrasound provides slightly different measurements of central corneal thickness. The authors conclude that the devices should not be used interchangeably and, when a precise measurement is vital, corneal thickness should be rechecked using an ultrasound pachymeter before corneal surgery.
