    Convergence Insufficiency Exotropia: Treatment Options

    AAO 2023
    Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Strabismus

What treatment options might be available for adults who present with convergence insufficiency exotropia? Not very many, according to Dr. Alejandra de Alba Campomanes in her talk during the AAO 2023 symposium on "Adult Strabismus for the Comprehensive Ophthalmologist." Prisms and surgeries are the most commonly used treatments; the former work best when deviations are small, and the latter work best when deviations are larger or when prisms can no longer be tolerated. Surgical options include resection of the medial rectus and recession or insertion slanting of the lateral rectus.
