Techniques of Amniotic Membrane Grafting in the Management of Corneal Perforations in Various Situations

    AAO 2020 Video Program
    Amniotic Membrane, Cornea/External Disease

The management of corneal perforations is dependent on the size, location and etiology of perforation. The various management options include cyanoacrylate glue application, Tenon patch graft, amniotic membrane, corneal patch graft or penetrating keratoplasty. Cyanoacrylate glue is helpful in managing smaller perforations (ideally <3 mm). Larger perforations commonly require other modalities of management. In this video we demonstrate varied clinical situations where large perforations were managed effectively using multilayered amniotic membrane grafting techniques. We will also highlight a few specific conditions that are better managed by amniotic membrane grafting over the other management options.
