The scleral-fixated Carlevale IOL, which is traditionally secured using conjunctival openings, has gained popularity in Europe due to its self-blocking harpoon design. In this video, Dr. Evangelos Manousakis presents an alternate fixation technique that uses Hoffman pockets instead. By this method, he avoids conjunctival manipulation and achieves faster fixation of the IOL while minimizing certain postoperative complications related to opening of the conjunctiva (i.e., infection).
