Researchers conducted a cross-sectional blind comparative study with prospective data collected from 239 patients presenting at a single site with acute symptomatic age-related posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). After a baseline ophthalmoscopy/biomicroscopy exam, patients were referred for blind B-scan ultrasonography. Sensitivity was 96 percent for B-scan versus 89 percent for baseline, and negative predictive values were 98 percent versus 99 percent, respectively.
