    Cornea/External Disease

Bacterial infections that develop in the cornea are frequently associated with trauma, contact lens wear, dry eyes, or the use of contaminated topical medications. Corneal ulcers with a serpiginous, gray-white stromal infiltrate and hypopyon are characteristic of gram-positive bacterial, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae. This organism typically produces corneal ulcers with relatively distinct orders, sometimes with overhanging edges.
