    The infant with gonococcal conjunctivitis presents with swollen lids, heavy purulent exudate, “beefy-red” conjunctiva, and conjunctival edema. The gonococcal organism can penetrate the intact corneal epithelium, producing corneal ulceration and perforation if treatment is delayed
