Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors decrease aqueous production by inhibiting ion transport associated with the secretion of aqueous humor. Adequate inhibition of carbonic anhydrase with systemic administration has been shown to cause a decrease in aqueous humor production by approximately 30%.
