Esotropia, Larger at Near: Bilateral Medial Rectus Recession

    Pediatric Ophthalmology Subspecialty Day 2022
    Pediatric Ophth/Strabismus, Strabismus

In this presentation from Pediatric Ophthalmology Subspecialty Day 2022, Dr. Yasmin Bradfield shares her thoughts on augmented bilateral medial rectus (BMR) recession for esotropia that is larger at near. She reviews data supporting the procedure, as well as issues with posterior fixation. Dr. Bradfield concludes that augmented BMR recession is safer with more predictable results, it improves stereopsis and allows the vast majority of patients to discontinue bifocals, and it has less chance of overcorrection.
