Closing out the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma (ASOT) "Sports-Related Ocular Trauma" Symposium at AAO 2023 was Dr. Amy Coburn, with a discussion of the many factors influencing eye safety in sports. Dr. Coburn explained how risk is multifactorial, involving risks specific to each sport, risk associated with individual players, ASTM sports equipment standards, the design and availability of eye/face protection, and current sporting authority rules and regulations. Taking into account each of these factors allows sports to be classified by overall risk, which can be used to promote advocacy and induce changes in safety standards.
