The left side of this slide shows a cup-todisc ratio of 0.9 and the right side shows a cup-to-disc ratio of 0.7. Significant asymmetric cupping of the optic discs, as shown here, occurs in less than 2% of the normal population. Therefore, asymmetric optic nerve cupping may indicate glaucomatous optic nerve damage in the eye with the larger cup.
