Topical beta-adrenergic antagonists decrease IOP significantly by decreasing aqueous production. Duration of action is 12 to 36 hours, so patients are treated with once-a-day or twice-a-day dosing. Most topical beta-adrenergic antagonists have yellow caps to make identification easier. Generic beta-adrenergic antagonists are frequently used.
